The Film Selection Committee enjoyed all of the submissions and would like to encourage everyone to keep on making short films and media projects. 2012 High School Film Competition Entry Guidelines
All entries must be postmarked by April 20, 2012.
- 15 minute maximum length, including credits.
- DVD format (Region 1 or Multi-platform).
- Films must be in English or have English subtitles.
- The entry must have been produced in the last year (after 01/31/11).
- Minimal profanity and violence.
- Use of music without written consent will result in disqualification.
- Limit of one (1) submissions by student or collaborative team
(a student may submit an individual film & be part of a group film). - All entry forms must be signed by the sponsoring faculty member.
- Any student or group of students enrolled in grades 7-12 may submit an entry.
- Entries must specify which type of film is being submitted. Please choose one of the following:
Narrative, Documentary, or Animation.
Submission Deadline:
- All entries must be postmarked by April 20, 2012. The Zaki Gordon Institute is not responsible for undelivered mail, returned mail, or delivery service delays.

Download submission PDF forms below, complete and enclose with your DVD submission. Please do not send any original or irreplaceable material as submissions will not be returned.
Mail or deliver completed submission forms and a copy of the project on a DVD to:

The Zaki Gordon Institute is not responsible for returning submitted films. Filmmakers may pick up their projects after the film festival, during school hours. Any project not picked up by July 15, 2012 will become the property of the film school.
Award Eligibility & Prizes:
Award winners will be notified by May 1, 2012. All winners will receive an all access pass to the ZGI Shorts Film Festival.
Please note that each Award has different eligibility guidelines.
Most Promising Filmmaker: 
The Most Promising Filmmaker Scholarship is full, in-state tuition (over $4,200 value) for a one-year certificate program in Narrative or Documentary filmmaking at Yavapai College’s Zaki Gordon Institute in Sedona, AZ. This scholarship is valid for a high school graduate that is an Arizona resident and applies to the school year beginning in August 2012 ending in May 2013. The scholarship is not redeemable for cash or any other classes at Yavapai College. If education is terminated by the student or the Zaki Gordon Institute the scholarship is null and void.
Emerging Filmmaker:
Award given to a student in grades 7-12 who demonstrates excellence and creativity in storytelling in a motion picture. Winner will receive an HDV digital video camera.
Best Group Film:
Award given to a group of four or more students in grades 7-12. The award winning group will receive a filmmaking workshop to be scheduled during the summer of 2012.
Judging:
Short films submitted on or before April 20, 2012 that meet the eligibility requirements will be screened and rated by the Film Selection Committee. Submissions will be judged by a panel of independent filmmakers and industry professionals. Awards will apply to the films with the highest scores and the appropriate eligibility.
Indemnification & Rights:
The Zaki Gordon Shorts Film Festival is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. Submission of an entry is acknowledgment that the filmmaker and sponsor has obtained any necessary clearances, licenses, approvals, etc. and gives broadcast rights permission in regard to all audio and visual elements, including any non-original aspects of the production. The Zaki Gordon Institute retains the non-exclusive, uncompensated right to use the film, in excerpts, or its entirety, for exhibition, promotion or any other purpose.
